Trees can't tell jokes, but they can certainly tell stories. . . .

Red is an oak tree who is many rings old. Red is the neighborhood "wishtree"―people write their wishes on pieces of cloth and tie them to Red's branches. Along with her crow friend Bongo and other animals who seek refuge in Red's hollows, this "wishtree" watches over the neighborhood.

You might say Red has seen it all. Until a new family moves in. Not everyone is welcoming, and Red's experiences as a wishtree are more important than ever.

Funny, deep, warm, and nuanced, Wishtree is Newbery Medalist and New York Times–bestselling author Katherine Applegate at her very best―writing from the heart, and from a completely unexpected point of view.

Like all red trees, this one is no different...red is a beautiful tree that is 216 rings old almost her entire life she's been a wish tree. She was planted in a wonderful mixed neighborhood. But when an immigrant family moves into the neighborhood a mean boy carved "LEAVE" into her trunk the young girl and her parents think should move. With the help of a young boy (the girls new friend) and a few animals they help her family feel welcome. They even save red from meeting a terrible fate, by showing how amazing she really is. This is a real heart warming book. I loved it very much. -Ajg15

This book was WONDERFUL! So red the neighborhood wish tree she is a red oak tree and people make wishes and tie any type of cloth on the tree. But throughout the book it's wonderful red has animal and human friends but a new family moves in and a boy that wasn't to nice... Wrote "LEAVE" right on her trunk but everything works out and the boy gets stopped but everything is fine. There is so much adventure. I love it SO much! I rate it 4 stars. I recommend for all ages. Everyone needs to read it! 😘

This book is an absolute masterpiece! I enjoyed it immensly

Wishtree was a book that was very interesting because it was told from Red (the wishtree's) perspective I really liked this book I also really enjoy Katherine Applegate's books.

This book is about a tree named Red, All red oaks are named Red. But Red is more commonly known as the Wishtree. Every year at the beginning of May people from all different sizes, shapes, and ages come to the wishtree with either a rag, a piece of paper and occasionaly a piece of underwear and tie it on with a piece of string. On these things there is a wish. Some of these wishes ridicuolas some of them kind, and some selfish. But one day the police and Francesca with two un-obediant cats decide to have someone cut red down. All of Red`s residents the opposoms, the skunks, the owls, the raccoons, and practically the whole neighborhood don`t want to have to say goodbye to Red as he has been there since the 1800`s. Stephan than sets up for the whole school to write the word stay on index cards and tie it on the tree to show how much everyone wants Red to stay. But it isn`t enough. As they are about to chop Red down all of Red`s residants including Red`s best friend Bongo and Francesca`s cats climb up onto the tree so nowone can cut Red down . Thanks to them Red is safe!!!!

This book is about a 216 year old oak tree. This tree is special to everyone, because they write their wishes on pieces of cloth and tie them on it's branches.

this is such an amazing touching book, and the story of red oak is soooo good, hope and friendship matter so much and this book re-teaches that

So, my class read this book right before school ended. Here's the thing, when you open the book, it opens a whole new world! I used to hate books, but when i opened this book, it was the best! The book is about a 216 year old tree who happens to be a wish tree. The tree's name is Red and has a best friend which is a crow. what happens is that, SPOILER ALERT!, a 10 year old girl named Samar moves to the neighborhood with her parents. They aren't treated with equality because they are Muslim. Then, she meets a boy, who also treats her with ignorence, no names, I want you guys to figure it out who on your own, who changes everything! He even helps her stay for a while! plus, it's all, well, mostly because of Red. So, in conclusion, this book not only sparked my interest in reading, but it also opened a whole new world! Although this book is a fantasy, it feels like non- fiction! Shout out to the author! Well, one more thing, HAPPY READING !!!!!!!!!!!!!
